November 2010 and Schooldrivers release a video that would become the center of dispute amongst Greek fans for years to come.
Eprepe Na Gino Rapper (transl: I Should Have Been A Rapper) by Kay & The Schooldrivers (as was the band’s name back then) was the 1st independent digital single release of the band after it’s debut of PAME EKDROMH!. The track received unforeseen critics by the audience and the change of style came as a shock to the older fans.
Even though, the track is a satire on mainstream and urban Greek music the lyrics are highly controversial and speak of real events that occurred to the band during that year – including copyright theft and a series of gigs not being “booked” because it actually cost cheaper hiring an MC working on playbacks than a full band.
The song’s subject could be summed up to the phrase: ”It’s easy being a rapper, talking about nonsense and pressing some buttons to make music. It’s easier for a true musician to rap though – so beware”.
